Careers

Introduction

The Dental Group offers careers across general dentistry, specialist dentistry, hygiene and oral health, practice management and non-clinical practice roles. We are a growing New Zealand dental group built around high-quality care, strong teams and long-term opportunity. People join TDG because they want to do great work in well-supported practices, be part of an ambitious and collaborative organisation, and access genuine pathways for development, leadership and, for some clinicians, ownership.

Why join The Dental Group?

At TDG, we are building more than a network of practices. We are building a group of clinicians, leaders and teams who want to create outstanding patient experiences and high-performing practices over the long term.

What makes us different is the combination of local practice identity with broader group support. Our people benefit from the backing of a larger organisation while still working in practices that remain grounded in their local communities and led by people who care deeply about clinical standards, patient relationships and team culture.

For dentists and dental specialists

The Dental Group offers clinicians the opportunity to work in quality practices with strong support around them. Depending on the role and the practice, opportunities may include:

  • Building a patient base within an established and growing practice.
  • Collaborating with experienced clinicians across general and specialist disciplines.
  • Access to quality facilities, equipment and practice support.
  • Opportunities across multiple locations and practice settings.
  • The chance to build a long-term career within a growing New Zealand group.
  • For the right clinicians, a pathway toward shared ownership or future partnership.

We know that good clinicians want the freedom to practise well, supportive teams around them and a clear sense of where their career could go next. That is what we aim to provide.

For practice managers, and non-clinical roles

Strong practices are built by more than clinicians alone. Our practice managers, reception teams, treatment coordinators, dental assistants and office staff play a critical role in the success of every practice.

At TDG, these roles offer the chance to be part of a growing and well-resourced organisation where professionalism, initiative and practical problem-solving are valued. As the group grows, there are opportunities to take on broader leadership responsibilities, support multiple practices, contribute to projects across the network and continue developing your career within the wider business.

Pathways and development

We want good people to build long-term careers with us.

For clinicians, that may mean growing a patient base, expanding into new locations, building specialist services, stepping into leadership or exploring a pathway into ownership. One of the core strengths of TDG is that we are able to offer more than a standard associate role. For the right clinicians, there may be opportunities over time to participate more deeply in the future of a practice through partnership or shared ownership.

For non-clinical team members, development may take the form of progressing into senior practice leadership, taking on broader operational responsibilities or contributing to projects across the wider group. As TDG grows, so too do the opportunities for our people to grow with it.

Working with us as an overseas clinician

The Dental Group also works with clinicians moving to New Zealand from overseas regularly. We understand that relocating internationally is a significant step, and we aim to make the process as practical and well supported as possible.

Depending on the role and the clinician’s circumstances, support may include guidance around registration pathways, understanding practice opportunities within the group, location options and the practicalities of settling into a new team and a new country. We know that moving is not just about a job – it is also about lifestyle, family, professional confidence and feeling supported in a new environment.

New Zealand offers an exceptional lifestyle, and many clinicians are drawn by the opportunity to build a rewarding professional career while enjoying a better balance outside of work. We are proud to help clinicians make that transition successfully and to support them in building a long-term future here.

Testimonials

Frazier Johnston

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to have transitioned from an associate to a part owner/clinical partner at Dental Today – Onehunga. It has been a dream come true, and I am excited to continue building the practice and serving our patients.

I have learned so much from Dr Tony Dey (an existing clinical partner) and The Dental Group over the last year. The Dental Group model, helps provide support, expertise and confidence to operate running a successful dental practice.

As a clinical partner, I am now able to have a greater impact on the practice and our patients. I am also able to make decisions about the future of the practice, which is exciting and very rewarding.

If you are an associate dentist who is considering becoming a practice owner, I highly recommend working with Andy and Prashant at The Dental Group. It is a rewarding career pathway. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of Dental Today and The Dental Group.

“Buying a part of a dental practice with The Dental Group was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. We have a great working relationship, and we share the same vision for the future of the practice.

Andy and Prashant have a fantastic understanding of clinicians and dental practices, understanding a practice’s strengths and weaknesses.

I worked closely with Andy and Prashant to help with the purchase process. The Dental Group helped to value the practice, negotiate the purchase price, and develop a transition plan.

I am now a very happy clinical partner of One Health Dental and have a great balance of having the autonomy to make decisions for day-to-day operations, knowing The Dental Group model is always there for their expertise when needed.

If you are considering buying a part of a dental practice with another party, I highly recommend The Dental Group. It has been for me a great way to transition to practice ownership with a partner who I trust and respect, and who share my vision for the future of the practice.

Selling part of my specialist orthodontic practice to The Dental Group was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I had been the sole owner of the practice for many years and was ready to achieve greater heights. Andy and Prashant’s knowledge and passion in helping clinical partners and their practices develop offered me this pathway.

The transition to partnership with The Dental Group was smooth and seamless. Andy and Prashant worked closely with me to develop a plan that met my personal needs, as well as those of the practice and my patients.

I am now an extremely satisfied clinical partner in the practice and find working with Andy and Prashant inspiring and rewarding. This collaborative approach brings strength and opportunity; I am excited to see what the future holds now we are expanding the practice into multiple sites.

Working with The Dental Group is a great way to drive future growth or transition to retirement or semi-retirement, while ensuring that your practice has every opportunity to continue to thrive.
